No further growth expected this week for 288 hectare wildfire east of Radium Hot Springs
Efforts to combat the Mitchell Ridge wildfire continues east of Radium Hot Springs.
Officials with Kootenay National Park said the fire was last estimated at 288 hectares, with wildfire crews not expecting any further growth on the perimeter of the fire this week.
A total of 33 Parks Canada firefighters, along with two helicopters, are working to address the blaze.
They are cutting down danger trees, reinforcing hose lay to the south and west flanks and patrolling the northern perimeter to deal with spot fires.
The wildfire was sparked by lightning over the weekend and is not considered a threat to the public, roads or infrastructure.
An update on the blaze is expected from Kootenay National Park officials Thursday.
