The Reuse Centre at the Cranbrook Transfer Station reopens today (Nov. 3) after being closed for two years.
“The Reuse Centre was closed in early 2024 due to ongoing issues we were experiencing at the site, including continuous break-ins and vandalism, which caused costly damage to our fences, the buildings and property that potentially put staff and the public at risk,” said Jeff Blanchard, Environmental Services Manager, RDEK.
“We recognize how important the facility is to the wider community, and we are hopeful that the previous challenges will not recur with this reopening of the Reuse Centre.”
Starting Nov. 3, the Reuse Centre will be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The RDEK selected these hours because they are typically lower-volume times during the week and manageable for on-site contractors, based on previous operational issues.
The RDEK Board recently approved the reopening and will review its impacts after six months of operation.
The Cranbrook Transfer Station is in the industrial area on the north end of the city.
It is one of six RDEK Reuse Centres and was the only one temporarily closed.
The Cranbrook Reuse Centre is located at 2405 22nd Street North, Cranbrook.
