The Sheep Creek Transfer Station has temporarily closed after a bin failure raised safety concerns, according to the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK).

The RDEK says increased bear activity caused the failure.

Residents are encouraged to use an alternate transfer station while repairs and cleanup are underway. Options include Canal Flats at 306 Green Rd and in Wasa at 7310 Prairie Rd.
