Earlier this week, the BC Coroners Service released preliminary data showing that the East Kootenay reported two drug-related deaths in June after several quiet months.
Throughout British Columbia, 138 deaths were reported in June due to suspected unregulated drug toxicity, equating to approximately 4.6 deaths a day.
The Ktunaxa Nation are hosting a family-friendly BBQ in Cranbrook for International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31.
The event runs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Operation Street Angel and will feature face painting and lawn games.
