Cranbrook-area trail, camp temporarily closing for upgrade work Monday

A Cranbrook-area trail is set to temporarily close after the weekend as crews gear up for site upgrades.

From Monday, August 10 to Tuesday, August 11, Mause Creek/Tanglefoot Trail will be closed as helicopters long-line building materials and gear into Tanglefoot Lake and the Mause Creek tarns.

As a result, Recreation Sites and Trails BC says this will temporarily restrict access to the primitive camping grounds in the area.

“For your safety, please respect closures, signage, and instructions from personnel on site,” wrote the agency. “We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to improve the camping experience in the area!”

Tanglefoot and Mause Creek Tarns are located above the Wild Horse River drainage, near Fort Steele, roughly 22 kilometres northeast of Cranbrook.

The trail is known for going through a historic mine site, alpine ponds and meadows before descending into Tanglefoot Lake.
