Columbia Valley resident honoured as RDEK Electoral Area G 2026 Volunteer of the Year

A local man has now been recognized for his consistent dedication to sport and community well-being in the Columbia Valley.

The Regional District of East Kootenay has awarded John Hague as this year’s Electoral Area G Volunteer of the Year.

Hague has served as head referee with the Columbia Valley Minor Hockey Association, introduced pickleball to the area, and volunteered with Groundswell Community Greenhouse and Gardens to share his passion for permaculture gardening with others.

“Over the years, he has helped create opportunities for people of all ages to stay active, connected, and engaged,” says RDEK Electoral Area G Director Roberta Schnider. 

“John’s efforts have enriched lives, strengthened connections, and created opportunities that will continue to benefit people for years to come.”

Hague was honoured at the Area G information meeting held in Edgewater last night (June 9).
