IIO investigating Cranbrook arrest after new information emerges
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia has opened an investigation into an arrest that took place in Cranbrook in 2024.
On October 5, 2024, officers were called to a domestic dispute in the area of Mission Wasa Low Road and South Kootenay Reserve Road.
When officers arrived, they found two men involved in a confrontation and proceeded to arrest both individuals.
One of the men was injured and taken to a local hospital for assessment and treatment.
At the time of the incident, the IIO concluded that the injuries did not meet the threshold required to be classified as serious harm.
However, after receiving additional information in October 2025, the IIO has reassessed the case and now believes the injuries may meet that threshold.
The IIO says it’s still analyzing the evidence to establish what took place.
Anyone who may have information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477.
