An agreement-in-principle has been reached between Canada and the States on, whatโs being billed as, a modernization of the Columbia River Treaty.
In a press release from BCโs Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Low Carbon Innovation, it termed the AIP a milestone and clear road map for drafting of a new treaty.
The interim document, which included the input of three of the areaโs First Nations, is a framework around flood control and continued cooperation of hydropower for the Columbia River Basin.
Ktunaxa Council Chair Kathryn Teneese said, while they continue with their sacred duty to protect all living things, they look forward to working with Canada, BC, and its Indigenous partners towards a renewed Columbia River Treaty.
