The BC Wildfire Service is tending to several active wildfires in the East Kootenay.

The Evacuation Alerts remain in effect and there have been no changes to them in the past 24 hours
An Area Restriction is in place
Between 3-5 mm of rain fell on Wednesday, with the greatest totals in the southern section of the fire
Fire behaviour has been significantly reduced throughout the site and no significant changes have occurred in the last 24 hours
Hand guards and equipment guards are being established on the southern flank, from Lladnar Creek to the transmission lines, for future planned ignitions
N11805 St. Mary’s River (ʔaq̓am)
This fire continues to be classified as BEING HELD and is not expected to grow beyond its current perimeter.
The Evacuation Order for this fire was rescinded by ʔaq̓am on Aug 8, however roads within ʔaq̓am will remain closed to the public and ʔaq̓am is asking the public to stay out of the area to provide the BC Wildfire Service and responding crews full and unimpeded access.

BCWS personnel and heavy equipment are in place developing machine guard and making control lines by hand
Helicopters are assigned to support and slow down fire progression in order for heavy equipment to complete control lines

The BCWS continues to monitor this fire and will respond as needed
N12352 Lum Creek – NE of Fisher Peak

An Area Restriction is in place
As no structures or infrastructure are at risk of being impacted at this time and this fire is beneficial to this ecosystem, this incident continues to be monitored daily by BC Wildfire Service.
N22240 Mia Creek – approx 17km NE of Canal Flats

Recent precipitation and relative humidity should result in low vigor fire and minimal perimeter growth
Work continues to build helipads and staging areas.
Crews are opening 9 Mile Rd with equipment access and establishing road access between Kootenay East and Moscow FSR
Crews are completing fuel free and hand guard sections along Kootenay East FSR
N22243 Horsethief Creek – approx 10km W of Invermere

An Evacuation Order and Alert are in place for this fire
Recent precipitation and relative humidity should result in low vigor fire and minimal perimeter growth
Crews are keeping fire out of the Panorama Ridge by indirect attack using guard to the NW side of the escarpment, this attack will include ground crews and waterbombing aircraft
Crews continue to maintain containment on the east flank with ground crews supported by aircraft where needed

Crews will continue to work on mop up on guards and extend the Cochrane sprinkler line at the back end of drainage
Dangerous tree assessment and falling will continue from little Elk Junction working west
