BC Wildfire Service reporting no growth from St. Mary’s River Wildfire
The BC Wildfire Service says they have seen no growth from the St Mary’s River Wildfire in the last 24 hours.
The blaze is currently at 4,093 hectares.
The BC Wildfire Service warns a cold front is expected tonight and conditions remain susceptible for spot fires.
Incident Commander Daniel Klein says they will continue to monitor the fire overnight with the full resources at their disposal.
“We are gonna get challenged if something sparks in spots,” Klein says. “I’ve been working with operations, operations is working with heavy equipment, structure protection and aviation resources to make sure that any of our areas of concern are well staffed and we have a plan in place to respond to them as quickly as possible.”
Klein says they are continuing with planned ignitions to limit the fire’s spread.
“If people are seeing smoke in the early morning, that is likely intentional pockets of green fuel being burnt,” he says. “Again, they only way that we’re gonna guarantee that this doesn’t spark up and burn again is to just remove as much fuel as we can on our own terms.”
