Names revealed for new student housing at COTR Cranbrook campus
Names for student housing at the College of the Rockies Cranbrook campus have been revealed.
The new buildings opened in 2021, featuring five cottage-style buildings with 100 new student beds, along with an outdoor classroom and social space.
The five new buildings recently received names in the Ktunaxa language, with the group being referred to as village in the Ktunaxa language.
The five new buildings are collectively referred to as ʔa·kikⱡuʔnam that translates to “village” in the Ktunaxa language. The individual buildings are named: ?akisqnuk (Columbia Lake), Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡiʔit (Tobacco Plains), ʔaq̓am (St. Mary’s), Yaqan Nuʔkiy (Lower Kootenay) and Kyaknuqli?it/Kenpesq’t (Kinbasket Shuswap).
The housing more than doubles the number of students able to live at the Cranbrook campus from 96 to 196.
