Kimberley Dynamiters Head Coach reflects back on team’s accomplishments for 2022/2023 season
The head coach of the Kimberley Dynamiters is reflecting back on a championship season for his team.
Head Coach Derek Stuart is reflecting back on the Dynamiters playoff run, which led to a Game 7 victory over Princeton in the Teck Cup Finals and a place in the Cyclone Taylor Cup tournament.
Despite the silver medal finish, he says the Nitros gave it their all over these past few months.
“This team has improved vastly from the start of the playoffs until now. Its a completely different team,” Stuart says. “The belief and the resiliency and the never give up attitude that they’ve shown. The effort and everything they gave, they gave us everything they have and I can’t be more appreciative of the determination of this hockey team.”
He says the team showed considerable effort against strong opponents throughout the entire playoffs.
“For me, we’re the last champion standing in the province,” Stuart says. “We beat both the PJHL and the VIJHL champions at the tournament. We won our league and in our opinion, we’re the best team in BC and I think that says a lot about our group.”
Preparations for the 2023/2024 KIJHL season aren’t expected anytime soon.
Stuart says he’ll likely get back to recruiting sometime in May following the busy post season.
