Pacific Coastal Airlines suspending Cranbrook-Vancouver flights April 28

Pacific Coastal Airlines is suspending its flights between Cranbrook and Vancouver at the end of April.

The airline says the decision is being prompted by operational constraints due to the critical pilot and aircraft maintenance engineer shortage.

They add they’re unable to offer its desired level of flight frequency and capacity prompting its decision to suspend service locally and to reduce capacity in other markets.

You can fly with Pacific Coastal Airlines between Cranbrook and Vancouver until April 28, a full refund is being offered to anybody who is impacted by the airline’s cancellations.

This is the second time in recent years the airline has suspended service between Kootenay Rockies International Airport and YVR, it was announced early 2020 that the route was suspended due to a pilot shortage – service was restored by July of that year.

Pacific Coastal Airlines will end its regularly scheduled flight service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) South Terminal and Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC). The last day of operations for flights between Vancouver and Cranbrook will be Friday, April 28, 2023.

Customers affected by this cancellation will be contacted and offered a full refund.

Pacific Coastal originally commenced service between Vancouver and Cranbrook on September 8, 2003. It was previously announced in early 2020 that the route would be suspended due to a pilot shortage, with the pandemic starting shortly after. Market conditions allowed for the route to return on July 5, 2020 until present.

“As our organization continues to emerge from the pandemic we are experiencing operational constraints due to the critical pilot and aircraft maintenance engineer shortage,” said Johnathan Richardson, Vice President of Customer & Commercial. “We are unable to offer our desired level of flight frequency and capacity and have made the difficult decision to suspend flights between Vancouver and Cranbrook, as well as reduce capacity in other markets in our network, to ensure that we can maintain offering a reliable and robust flight schedule for 2023.”
