National Men’s Para Hockey captain bringing fundraiser to Columbia Valley
The captain of the National Men’s Para Hockey team is bringing his Sledge Skate of Hope fundraiser to the Columbia Valley later this month.
Tyler McGregor is skating his sled 420 km in all 10 provinces in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the Terry Fox Foundation, he’ll be skating the 42 km Windermere Whiteway on January 23.
“The Sledge Skate of Hope actually started in 2021 inspired by Terry Fox’s original Marathon of Hope in 1980,” McGregor says. “As a cancer survivor myself, as somebody who lost my leg to cancer, Terry Fox is obviously a major inspiration to me.”

McGregor’s nationwide fundraiser started in Nova Scotia earlier this week, his fundraising goal is $100,000.

Inspired by the inaugural Marathon of Hope, Tyler McGregor has set a personal goal of skating his sled 42km in each of Canada’s provinces (for a total of 420km) to raise $100,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation in 2023. Tyler McGregor executed his first Sledge Skate of Hope in February 2021, in which he skated his sled 25km with the goal of raising $25,000 for the foundation, ultimately raising $31,329
