Pete Davis of the Conservative Party of BC has been re-elected MLA for Kootenay-Rockies, a riding he has represented since 2024.
Davis won 56.3 per cent of the vote in Saturday’s (Oct. 24) snap provincial election with 9,130 votes. In 2024, he won 42.71 per cent of vote with 8,217 votes.
Davis ran against Norma Blissett of the NDP, Keenan Dennehy of the BC Green Party, AJ Wolfe of OneBC and Paul Heywood of CentreBC.
The Conservative Party of BC have formed a majority government, with interim leader Lorne Doerkson expected to become premier.
Speaking to Pattison Media, Davis said he is “ecstatic” that the Conservatives have formed government and is looking to get some initiatives implemented in the riding.
“I’m very happy that the people of Kootenay-Rockies have re-elected me, and they’re looking for me to make sure that we’re going to do some things in the riding,” said Pete Davis, MLA for Kootenay-Rockies.
“So, we’ve got some initiatives that need to happen here. And having an MLA in government is going to make a huge difference as far as getting things done around the Kootenays.”
Davis said with the Conservatives forming majority government, progress will be made on issues facing the region.
“Well, the one thing that I’ve always said, and the reason why I got involved in this, is because it seems that the Kootenays here seem to get forgotten in British Columbia,” he added.
“We seem to be the furthest away away. And I’m just making sure that everybody knows that and understands that we’re going to have a voice here in Kootenay-Rockies.
“And with an MLA in government, that means we’re going to get some stuff here done, which is really great because there’s lots of things to do.”
Davis said it’s “an honour” to serve the Kootenay-Rockies, and is thankful for everyone who voted for him.
“I just want to say thank you again from the people of Kootenay-Rockies for re-electing me. And it’s truly an honour, it’s an honour of my life to be able to serve in this position,” Davis said.
Davis emphasizes that action will be taken and community projects will remain a priority.
“We’re going to have a lot of stuff done here in Kootenay Rockies. There’s a school that needs to be built. There’s a hospital that needs to be finished and expansion there. There’s road safety.
“There are so many things from, I can say, from Moyie to Elkford, that need to be done. And I’m going to make sure that we get advocated for and that we get some movement here in Kootenay-Rockies.”
