City Council has approved a lease agreement that gives the Fernie Outdoor Rink Society a new home at 250 Pine Avenue, on the Aquatic Centre grounds.
After the 2025/2026 winter season, when the Society worked with the City to bring outdoor ice back into use, the Society proposed building a new outdoor rink at the Aquatic Centre.
Council then directed staff to complete a site selection process to identify the most suitable location for the facility.
Staff reviewed several potential sites, including:
- Annex Park
- Thompson Park
- James White Park
- Max Turyk Community Centre grounds
- Aquatic Centre grounds at 250 Pine Avenue
- A site adjacent to the railway dog park
- A site within the former Coal Creek dump site
Council approved the lease agreement at Tuesday’s (August 25) meeting, allowing construction and operation of an outdoor rink at 250 Pine Avenue.
