The City of Fernie is welcoming the sunshine by prepping its outdoor facilities for the summer.
Crews are shifting from indoor facility work to opening parks, fields, playgrounds, and other recreation spaces in the community, including setting up tennis, pickleball, and outdoor volleyball courts; fertilizing the soccer fields; and removing winter gravel and debris from maintained public areas.
“While we are all eager to get out there and enjoy Fernie’s beautiful parks and outdoor recreation spots, many amenities require inspections, repairs, cleaning, and setup before they can safely open,” said the City. “Thank you for understanding while we get things going for the summer season.”
The beach volleyball courts are now ready for play.
Next steps after ongoing work will focus on park shade sails, public washrooms, and water fountains once the risk of overnight freezing has passed.
More details on ongoing preparations are available through the City’s website.
