Highway police are looking to cool down dangerous driving habits ahead of the warmer months.
BC Highway Patrol will be boosting its presence for the High-Risk Driving and Motorcycle Awareness Campaign this coming May.
“Impaired driving is one of the classic high-risk behaviours that police will be enforcing throughout the month of May,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
“Another high-risk focus will be excessive speed. Just because the weather is nice and roads are dry, that does not give you permission to speed. In collisions, speed kills.”
McLaughlin also urges motorcyclists to slow down and drive defensively, while all other motorists are asked to pay attention and consciously watch for motorcycles to avoid collisions.
Motorists caught engaging in excessive speeding or other high-risk driving behaviours could face penalties ranging from 30-day vehicle impounds to $483 in speeding tickets.
“Public safety is our top priority,” McLaughlin added. “We would much rather write you a ticket for excessive speeding or aggressive driving than have to tell your loved ones that you died in a collision.”
