Elk Valley RCMP highlighted crime trends and policing priorities in their latest quarterly report.
Fernie RCMP saw a slight increase in calls during the second quarter, from July to September, according to a recent report.
RCMP responded to 1,305 calls for service across the region during the second quarter of 2025-2026, including 427 in Fernie, up from 368 in the same period last year.
The report notes a range of incidents across the detachment’s jurisdiction.
In Fernie, officers responded to three cases of intimate partner violence, eight non-domestic assaults, two sexual assaults, and several property crimes, including 17 business break-and-enters and seven residential break-ins.
RCMP additionally carried out 11 impaired driving investigations, conducted bar patrols, performed curfew checks, and arrested five individuals on various charges.
Community policing remained a focus.
Officers completed on foot patrols at local events, including Canada Day, the Wapiti Music Festival, and the Fernie Pride Parade.
Schools were patrolled at the beginning of the school year, and Cpl. Dyer participated in the Isabella Dicken Elementary Terry Fox Run.
Other priorities for the second quarter included traffic enforcement, prolific offender management, and police visibility.
