Winter parking restrictions take effect in Fernie on Sunday (Nov.1) to help crews clear snow from streets and parking areas.
The winter parking regulations determine when and where vehicles can park and remain in effect from Nov.1 until April 15 each year.
The city is asking residents to keep vehicles off roads and boulevards and use off-street parking wherever possible so crews can clear snow.
Drivers parking on the street must follow posted signs.
Where there are no signs, the alternating parking schedule applies. Vehicles cannot park on the:
- South or east side of roads from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
- North or west side of roads from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The rotating schedule allows plows to clear streets back to the boulevards on alternating days.
The regulations are enforced under the Streets and Traffic Bylaw No. 1400. The winter parking policy applies throughout Fernie wherever posted signs do not control parking.
Vehicles parked contrary to the Streets and Traffic Bylaw No. 1400 may be ticketed, towed and impounded.
Each neighbourhood has a winter parking map, which can be viewed here.
