The City of Fernie is now restricting water usage ahead of the warmer months.
Stage 1 water restrictions are in effect each year from March 1 to October 15, unless conditions need more intensive conservation measures.
Under Stage 1 restrictions, residents are permitted to water their lawns for up to two hours, three days a week, except on Wednesdays.
Even-numbered addresses can do so on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, while odd-numbered addresses are allowed on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Washing cars and outdoor surfaces, such as driveways and windows, may be done only with a handheld shutoff nozzle, and daily watering of new sod, seeds and grass is allowed with a permit from City Hall.
Food-producing gardens are exempt from the rule at this stage.
“These measures help conserve water during the busiest months of the year, protecting our water system and ensuring access to clean drinking water and required water flows for firefighting,” said the City.
“Thank you for doing your part to help conserve water.”
