Cranbrook to block off portion of downtown for utility work Monday

The City of Cranbrook will be shutting a small section of 11th Avenue next week, located right across from the local RCMP detachment.
Starting Monday (Aug. 25), contractors with Revolution Earthworks will be performing utility upgrades to a property at 32 11th Avenue South as part of a major revitalization plan for the downtown core.
Local traffic will be open during construction to allow access into surrounding businesses.
“Please follow and obey all traffic signage and the direction of any workers on site while this project is being completed,” said the City.
The road is set to be closed between Baker Street and 1st Street South for at least two weeks.
Council approved the redevelopment zoning bylaw in July 2024.
The amendment allowed the City to proceed with a 20-unit apartment building near commercial space, which the City hopes will attract more users and foot traffic in the downtown core.
