City of Fernie closes community centre

Calling it a difficult decision, the City of Fernie has made the decision to close its community centre until further notice.

It follows a review that looked into the indoor air quality and condition of the building.

In a release, the City contends any immediate mitigating work required to make the facility safe for continued public use would be extensive and costly.

Laboratory testing done inside the community centre found the presence of mold and mold spores.

For now, any events scheduled inside the facility have been cancelled.
