Cranbrook Courthouse Library expands hours
The Cranbrook Courthouse Library is expanding it’s hours of operation.
The non-profit information resource is now open from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm Tuesday and 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Wednesday.
Library assistant Abbey Cowper says the library provides information and assistance to people involved in legal matters, in particular those without representation.
“I help people find forms, I can give them information on how to fill them out so they know they’re doing it right,” Cowper says. “I do a lot of family law forms, so I help people with divorces or annulments or things like that. Or I can help people find legal information for starting a business or if you’re an immigrant, things like that.”
Cowper says visitors will be able to make use of the libraries resources, including a large collection of criminal case records.
“We also have lots of precedents, old cases that can be used as an argument in court or examples of forms to help people fill them out and know they’re doing it the proper way. We have a big Indigenous law collection. We have a pretty good sized collection that doesn’t get taken out enough.”
The library is at the back of the Cranbrook Courthouse at 102 11th Avenue South.
