Teck Announces $250,000 Donation for Fernie Skate Park project
Teck Resources is making a major donation towards the development of Fernie’s new skate park.
Teck announced at a groundbreaking for the new amenity on June 1 that they would be providing 250 thousand dollars for its development.
The mining giant’s contribution will specifically support the construction of a skate park roof, which will enhance accessibility to the park by providing protection from weather.
The donation represented the final funding required to complete the sports park in development in Fernie.
Other funding is being contributed through Federal and provincial funding streams, the Columbia Basin Trust and City of Fernie.
The goal of the new park is an “all-wheel” sports park, catering to skateboarding, inline skating, BMX biking and scootering.
Contractors hope to have the park completed by the Fall, with a grand opening slated for Spring 2024.
