Flood Watch issued for East Kootenay, Elk Valley

The East Kootenay region is under a flood watch.

The BC River Forecast Centre upgraded the region from a high streamflow advisory issued earlier in the week due to rising water levels.

The watch includes Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford and Canal Flats, but does not include Fairmont, Invermere and Radium in the Columbia Valley to the north.

The Forecast Centre has also issued Flood Watches for most of BC’s Southern Interior, as warm weather and rain in the forecast could increase flood risk.
