MLA voices need for rebuild of MBSS in Legislature
The MLA for Kootenay East is bringing attention in Legislature to the need for Cranbrook’s Mt Baker Secondary School to be replaced.
Tom Shypitka spoke in Legislature last week to mark the 72nd birthday for the local high school, he added in his comments that the facility has seen very few safety and modernization upgrades through its 72 years.
“The school is falling apart due to its age and is in desperate need to be replaced,” says Shypitka. “After being open for more than seven decades, the school has seen little progress to modernize and improve safety for students.”
He also noted accessibility challenges at the school as those with mobility issues must use a stair lift to get to and from the second floor.
Shypitka, a 1980 Mt Baker grad, says the Southeast Kootenay School District has been seeking a rebuild of the facility or major upgrades for several years.
