BC’s Finance Minister says the 2023 provincial budget aims to boost housing stocks in rural communities.
Katrine Conroy presented the budget at Friday’s Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
She touched on local initiatives, which includes new housing builds in Cranbrook for Indigenous residents and elders through BC Housing.
“Through BC Housing’s Indigenous Housing Fund, we built almost forty new homes in Cranbrook for Indigenous families, elders and individuals at the Chief Agnes McCoy Centre,” Conroy says. “These homes are more affordable for people who have low or moderate incomes.”
Conroy says local communities will benefit from the provincial surplus via government’s Growing Communities Fund which has allocated several multi-million dollar grants to municipal governments and First Nations.
She also touted several transportation improvements happening within the Kootenay region, including recent upgrades to the Kootenay Lake Ferry terminals.
