Kicking Horse Canyon Project Phase 4 construction will require extended 24-hour/multi-day closures of the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) east of Golden during Spring 2023.
The duration of this extended closure will be greatly reduced from those of the past.
The Highway Status Calendar on the project website will be updated on an ongoing basis.
The 24-hour extended closure periods for Spring 2023 are as follows:
- Tuesday, April 11th at 12:00 (noon) to Saturday, April 15th at 24:00 (midnight)
- Please note, there will be no extended closure in May 2023
This extended closure, which is subject to weather and other conditions, will be required to carry out construction that cannot be performed safely in the presence of traffic or during shorter interruptions.
During these extended closure periods, Trans-Canada Highway traffic will be routed via Highways 93S and 95, which will add up to 90 minutes to travel time.
While the duration of this multi-day closure will be relatively brief, the Province will again operate a season commuter pass system to reduce the inconvenience to those who are required to travel between Golden and Field, BC /Lake Louise, AB regularly for work.
Also, day passes will again be made available on a very limited basis for other exceptional and urgent local trips. Information will be posted on the Commuter Passes page of the project website by early March.
As in the past, during extended closures, the construction zone will be opened for prearranged local/commuter traffic, escorted by a pilot vehicle, during one half-hour period in the morning and one halfhour period in the afternoon.
Similar escorts will be provided for local school buses.
Please see details below.
Please note that there will be no closures or stoppages due to construction during the Easter long holiday weekend, from Thursday, April 6th at 12:00 noon until Tuesday, April 11th 12:00 noon to ensure limited impact to motorists over the long holiday weekend.
