City of Cranbrook sharing results from environmental survey
The City of Cranbrook has released results from a survey on residents’ views on climate change.
Data shows 88% of participants believe climate change is caused by human activities, while 62% believe individuals can reduce climate change’s impact.
Energy Conservationist Evan Berry says the survey shows a need for eco-friendly devices like electric cars and heat pumps.
“Convince people that the technologies that exist for reducing greenhouse gas emissions actually are useful in their lives, are essentially good for them, not necessarily the environment,” Berry says. “And not even addressing whether climate change even matters or exists.”
Results show 95% of participants said they would try to reduce climate change if they knew they could.
Berry says the City should use the survey results to promote eco-friendly technologies.
“Promoting what’s current in the technology, how well they actually work in Cranbrook and what’s good about them,” he says. “As well as addressing the concerns that people have, the negatives that either are real about them or are outdated or based on misinformation. It would be a lot of things that are actually technical to base this communications plan on.”
