City of Cranbrook welcoming feedback on 2023 Budget until March 24
Cranbrook’s mayor and city council are inviting you to weigh in on the City’s 2023 budget and five-year financial plan.
Mayor Wayne Price says a 5.87 percent tax increase is proposed for this year’s budget, he says the tax hike is due to challenges around inflation and rising costs for fuel.
He adds this year’s tax increase is below the rate of inflation according to the consumer price index.
“Inflation is around seven-percent, so we certainly come under the cost of living index on the inflation rates,” Price says. “I’m happy with the outcome, I thought we would have difficulty coming in under eight-percent.”

After much hard work, discussion and debate, Mayor Price and members of Council invite residents and business owners to engage with them around the proposed 2023-2027 Five Year Financial Plan.
The proposed plan is expected to result in an overall increase of 5.87% or about $12.85 per month for the average residential property. Inflationary pressures have forced prices to rise across many commodities and services, impacting many of the City’s operating and project costs just like what our residents and businesses face.
“Supply chain issues, inflation and rising interest rates have all contributed to this being a very challenging budget year,” says Mayor Wayne Price. “Council appreciates the discipline and hard work of our Finance team and each of our department Directors which enabled us to prepare what we feel is a realistic budget.”
Copies of the document will be available on the City’s website @ https://cranbrook.ca/our-city/city-departments/finance/budget/ or for pick up at City Hall beginning on Monday, March 13, 2023.
We ask that any of your comments be provided to us, in writing, which will be reviewed and considered by Council at its regular meeting of Monday, March 27, 2023.
We ask that your comments be received at City Hall by 4pm MT, on Friday, March 24, 2023.
