The Fernie Fox Hotel has donated $5,000 to the Elk River Alliance, a non-profit aimed at keeping the river, drinkable, fishable and swimmable.
Elk River Alliance’s Chad Hughes says the funds will be used to support their Discovery Kids Camps.
“We will be using the donation to A: pay additional staff, and then B: develop more camp programs,” says Hughes. “Like the older camp program, and also possibly purchase more gear so we can more equipment like stand up paddle boards, better safety equipment, and a trailer to transport gear and kids around.”
Hughes says he was ecstatic to receive the donation.
“Running all these different projects and programs is pretty expensive, so having local business support is really, really helpful,” he says. “Usually we have to rely on grants and fees, and that only takes us so far. Getting local support is what’s really going to be pushing our organization forward over the next few years.”
The Fernie Fox Hotel sets aside $25,000 each year to support local causes and events.
