Wayne Price elected new mayor of Cranbrook
Unofficial results are in from Saturday’s municipal election, and Cranbrook has a new mayor and council.
Wayne Price was elected as the new mayor of Cranbrook Saturday, beating out former Mayor Lee Pratt.
Price says his first task will be finishing the City’s financial budget.
“Council will be dealing with the budget for probably the next month and a half,” says Price. “Priority two? I’m going to form a working group that’s going to start looking at crime, homelessness, and the stuff we’re seeing down around ridge road and that kind of stuff. Thirdly? Tray and reconnect with the province.”
He says one of his major goals will be to strengthen communication between the City and residents.
“That’s a real criticism for me and I’m not happy about that,” he says. “We need to do a better job, we need to not just tell them what we’re doing but why we’re doing it. This is going to change. This is where we need to engage with our local media.”
The new city council consists of newcomers Wayne Stetski and Lynnette Wray, while Mike Peabody, Norma Blissett, Ron Popoff and Wesly Graham are returning to the council table.
